Arguello Law Firm in the Community

by Nishi Kothari

charityDuring the last week of April, devastating tornadoes ripped through the South, killing at least 36 people.  That next week, AHA employees in Alabama, directly affected by the tornadoes and wanting to help their community, launched what is now known affectionately in all of the offices as “Casual Friday for Charity.” Attorneys and staff are encouraged to donate whatever they can for the privilege of participating in casual Friday. That first week, AHA donated the funds from casual Friday to Daniel & April Smith, a couple in Arkansas whose house and family were destroyed by the tornadoes.  Daniel and April Smith not only lost their home, but also lost their two children to these horrific events.  AHA’s donations were part of the nearly $100,000 check that Mr. and Mrs. Smith received.

Last week, AHA attorneys and staff in Houston were encouraged to select the next charity.  AHA has selected The Lighthouse of Houston.  Located in the heart of downtown Houston, The Lighthouse has proudly served the blind and visually impaired Houston community for the past 75 years.  The Lighthouse not only serves as a rehabilitation center for the blind and visually impaired, but also provides educational programs and community services to all of its individuals.  Some of these programs include office skills training, customer service, telecommunications training, adult literacy programs, and other such programs.  AHA is proud to help make a small contribution towards this great cause.

As citizens of our communities first, and attorneys second, AHA is constantly looking for ways to build and support the communities in which we reside.  If you would like your charity to be considered for our next donation, please e-mail us, letting us know 1) the name of your charity, 2) a brief description of the activities and/or services your charity provides, and 3) any other information you would like us to consider.
