Finally a Win for Buffalo Bills Fans

by Andres Arguello

Jerry Wojcik might seem to some as a traitor to his beloved Buffalo Bills, but there is no shame in protecting your right of privacy.

Mr. Wojcik is one of the 39,750 Buffalo Bills fans that will take a share in a $3 Million Dollar settlement for this NFL team’s alleged violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA.)

According to the lawsuit, fans were able to sign up on the Buffalo Bills’ website to receive team alerts via text message. The website promised fans that enrolled in the messaging service that they would only receive three to five messages per week for 12 months. This promise, however, has become very costly.

Mr. Wojcik, claimed that he received six messages during one week in the program and seven messages during another. That grand total of 3 excessive text messages will personally net Mr. Wojcik $5,000.00 in cash.

Needless to say, the text-message- service is now defunct.

This is only one kind of violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.  Many violations of this Act occur every day and go unpunished.  Just think about the last time you received an annoying phone call from an unknown telephone number offering you lower rates on your credit card through an automated system. Or think about the last time you received a text message making you unsolicited offers to purchase a product or hire services.
