Pradaxa Injury Law Firm

Pradaxa, the drug designed to prevent strokes for patients suffering from atrial fibrillation, was first approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in October of 2010. Atrial fibrillation refers to an irregular heartbeat condition which is commonly associated with elderly individuals. Pradaxa serves as an inhibiting agent to the enzyme that causes blood clotting.

Unfortunately, however, is has been recorded on numerous accounts that Pradaxa works too well. As such, the negative side effects associated with Pradaxa have raised serious concerns for patients across the country that have used this defective drug. In the event that a Pradaxa patient suffers from serious bleeding, the drug blocks the ability for blood to clot, thus causing patients to bleed to death.

the Arguello Law Firm, PLLC has years of experience in defective drug litigation. If you or a loved one has experienced any negative side effects following the use of Pradaxa, you may be entitled to compensation for the losses in which you have suffered.

Pradaxa Internal Bleeding Symptoms

The most commonly reported side effect from taking Pradaxa is simple gastrointestinal discomfort. Some individuals, however, have experienced much more serious side effects. These side effects include coughing up blood and having blood appear in urine and stool. Some people have even had hemorrhaging occur. These conditions have cause doctors to more closely examine the side effects and safety of Pradaxa.

While Pradaxa does provide benefits in terms of a reduction in the risk of debilitating or fatal strokes, the following are some of the most frequently recorded negative side effects:

  • Black tarry or red stool
  • Lethargy
  • Brown or pink urine
  • Bleeding or unusual bruising
  • Coughing up blood
  • Frequent nosebleeds
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Vomit that resembles blood or looks like coffee grounds
  • Swelling or weakness of the arms, feet, hands, lower legs, or ankles
  • Joint swelling or pain
  • Death

In addition to these side effects, Pradaxa has also been connected to an increased risk of heart attack in patients. In fact, recent studies have revealed that those who take Pradaxa are 38 percent more likely to suffer a heart attack than those patients who take a comparable anti-blood-clotting drug.

Pradaxa patients must be completely aware of these side effects in order to monitor them in the months following use of the drug. If any of these symptoms arise, it is essential for Pradaxa patients to seek medical care immediately. If you have suffered after the use of Pradaxa, you deserve to be compensated for the damages in which you have had to endure.

Pradaxa Updates from the FDA

A recent update from the FDA revealed that, following further assessment of the drug Pradaxa, users did not observe an increased risk for bleeding when compared to the use of the related drug, warfarin. While this update is factual, it neglects to tell the whole story. The FDA failed to inform the public that the drug warfarin comes with a reversal agent, an essential factor if an emergency bleeding were to take place.

In contrast to warfarin, Pradaxa does not include any type of antidote to reverse the effects of the anti-blood-clotting drug. This antidote would prove to be imperative in a bleeding situation, as it would effectively stop the serious, often fatal bleed. If you or a loved one has experienced any health issues from the use of Pradaxa, the Arguello Law Firm, PLLC is prepared to take on your case today.

Pradaxa Lawsuits – Your Path to Compensation

Individuals who have experienced serious problems with Pradaxa and the families of the hundreds who have died because of the drug have started to file Pradaxa lawsuits against Boehringer Ingelheim who manufactures the medication. Most of the lawsuits that have been filed against the manufacturers of Pradaxa are separate cases. A single large class action suit has yet to materialize.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has started to investigate the thousands of claims that the drug is causing serious injuries and death. Despite the lawsuits, Pradaxa is still prescribed to patients over some other anticoagulants. Our defective drug attorneys are prepared to guide you throughout the litigation process and fight for the compensation that you and your family deserve.
