Scam calls update

by Adrian Dunning

Many of our clients have received recordings from unknown numbers letting them know that they have won a prize or are eligible to receive a free home security system. We are making progress tracking down some of these bogus companies in order to bring them to justice and stop them from making these types of call. While these types of calls are annoying, as long as the consumer does not give out any information, there is little risk that a consumer will suffer major financial loss.

However, a new scam call is in effect, where criminals from over seas call unsuspecting cell phone consumers and hang up after one ring. If the consumer calls the number back, they will be billed at an extremely high rate.  Most of these numbers are listed to lines in the Caribbean, such as Antigua or Barbados. If you receive a phone call form an unknown number that hangs up after one ring, resist the urge to call it back, or you could end up with a hefty charge on your cell phone bill.

If you receive any calls on your cell phone from a number using a pre-recorded message, let us know and we will take action make these calls stop and get you up to $1,500 per call you have received.
