Target is hearing consumers’ voices loud and clear

by Justin Chopin

The proof is in the pudding or in this case Target’s Quarterly Reports. Recall that over the holidays 110 million Target customers’ personal information was compromised. In what is being called one of the largest data breaches in history, Target’s headquarters confirmed that in addition to the 40 million customers whose credit and debit card data were stolen during the busy holiday shopping season hackers stole personal information including names, addresses, e-mail addresses, and phone numbers for 70 million customers.

Now Target reports that its revenues this quarter have taken a very sharp turn downward, by 46 percent and predicts that future earnings will be impacted as well. Put another way, this quarter Target lost about 1.5 billion dollars in revenues. It seems that American shoppers harmed by Target’s data breach are taking matters into their own hands and are delivering their own brand of justice.
