Wrong-Way Driving Leads to Fatal Texas Truck Accident

A fatal Texas truck accident occurred Sunday night as a driver was going the wrong way on a major freeway near Houston. The two-vehicle accident occurred Sunday at 11pm, when Efraim Carmona drove his 2009 Dodge Ram 550 pickup eastbound on the westbound lanes of the North Sam Houston Parkway near John Ralston. A report from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office showed that Mr. Carmona collided with a 2000 Ford F-150, killing four adults and a child.

Injuries in Texas Truck Accident

Mr. Carmona and two other people, including another passenger in the Ford pickup, were also injured in the Texas truck accident. The injured passenger in the Ford was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. Mr. Carmona was also hospitalized for his injuries, but authorities have not released any details on his condition. Authorities have not released the names of the injured or the deceased pending notification of next of kin. Houston TranStar, the city’s traffic management agency, reported that the wreck was cleared shortly after 6am Monday and that all the westbound lanes on the North Sam Houston Tollway had been reopened.

Charges Filed in Texas Truck Accident

Sheriff’s deputies at the Texas truck accident site reported that Mr. Carmona was showing signs of intoxication when he was arrested. The sheriff’s office has charged Mr. Carmona with five counts of intoxication manslaughter. The number of counts may increase pending the condition of the critically-injured passenger. In Texas, intoxication manslaughter is a second-degree felony, carrying fines of up to $10,000 and imprisonment of up to 20 years per count.
