Louisiana Sinkhole Swallows Large Trees

by Martin Arguello

A viral video of a sinkhole in Assumption Parish, Louisiana is showing the world how sinkholes can swallow up large amounts of land in an instant. On Wednesday a video shot by a parish official shows trees being swallowed up into a sinkhole that has been growing since August of last year. Currently the sinkhole spans more than 25 acres. According to officials the sinkhole has periodic increases in underground tremors and stirrings of gas and debris which is commonly known as “burps”. On Wednesday evening the “burp” led to the slough of several trees into the ground. The growth of the sinkhole is expected to continue as the hole seeks a final shape and size, the process could take a few years. Watch the breathtaking video below. This is the second harrowing video of a sinkhole in less than two weeks. Earlier this month a Florida Resort Villa was swallowed up by sinkhole in Orlando, Florida.
