The latest information from the United States Department of Transportation says that Texas highways are the second busiest highways in the nation. According to the report people travel 55.7 billion miles on Texas interstates each year.

“Analysis of the nation’s traffic patterns and areas of changing traffic volume will lead to safer, less congested roads and greater mobility for all Americans.” Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez said in a press release.

California highways were unsurprisingly the busiest with more than 84 billion miles traveled, which is more than 900 times the distance of the earth to the sun.

The large amount of drivers taking to these roads also means an increased risk of motor vehicle collisions. According to the Texas Department of Transportation there were more than 420 fatal car accidents on Texas interstates in 2011.

If you or a loved one has been injured in an interstate accident caused by a careless driver, the victim may be entitled to compensation for property damage, medical expenses, lost wages, and more.
