CONTRACTORS SENDING US CLIENTS

by David Christoffel

We recently met with another contractor/public adjuster, who agreed to refer us some of his property loss clients in Hidalgo County, Texas.  Hidalgo County was struck by a large wind and hail storm on April 20, 2012, and had verified hail strikes of approximately 4.5 inches according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  For comparison, an average softball is only 3.8 inches in diameter.  See http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/

When hail this severe strikes a roof, it can devastate the roof’s water shedding ability, thereby destroying or “totaling” the roof.  However, even hail damage this severe can be ignored by insurance companies.  Some insurance companies even claim that the damage is “pre-existing” or “wear and tear” and therefore not covered under the terms of the insurance policy.  Unfortunately, many home and business owners do not know how to identify wind and hail damage until they see a shingle in the yard or water stains on their interior ceilings or walls, so they are unaware that it is time to ask for help from a professional.

When a roofer, contractor or public adjuster begins working on a property damage case, the insurance company soon learns that it can not simply ignore the damage; however, even public adjusters or contractors will often receive less than full cooperation from an insurance adjuster.  Eventually, the contractor or public adjuster becomes frustrated with their lack of progress and the insurance company’s lack of cooperation.  When the roofer, contractor or public adjuster experiences these feelings of frustration, they too call the experienced attorneys at Arguello Law Firm to assist with their property loss cases.

The attorneys at Arguello Law Firm recognize that almost all of us pay insurance premiums on our homes and/or businesses, but all too often the insurance company is reluctant to make good on their agreement and pay what we deserve.

Should you have any questions about your property damage claim, do not hesitate to contact our office at 1-800-25-STORM or 1-800-257-8676 to schedule a time for one of our attorneys to discuss your individual needs at no cost to you.
